The students of Class 2 participated in an interactive, hands-on learning activity today where they had the unique opportunity to observe a real bird. This allowed them to closely examine the bird’s physical features—from its soft feathers to its sturdy claws—while understanding how each part helps the bird survive.

Key concepts learnt through today’s activity:

  • External Anatomy & Observation: Students identified the main parts of a bird, including the head, trunk and tail through direct observation and gentle touch.
  • Feather Specialization: Students felt the difference between the soft feathers on the breast (for warmth) and the long feathers on the wings (for flight), understanding that a bird’s body is entirely covered with feathers for protection.
  • Adaptations for Survival: Students observed the claws, discovering how their shapes help the bird onto branches and how the beak serves as the bird’s “hand” for eating, grooming, and building nests.
  • Classification & Movement: The activity introduced students to how birds move using their wings for flight and legs for perching or walking, distinguishing them from other animals.
